In a special operation conducted by the Bangladesh Army, top criminals Subrata Bain alias Fateh Ali and his close associate Mullah Masud alias Abu Russell Masud were arrested from Kushtia on Tuesday.
The operation took place at around 5am, said a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Later, based on information gleaned from them, Subrata Bain's other two associates, shooters Arafat and Sharif, were arrested from the Hatirjheel area of the capital.
During the operation, five foreign pistols, 10 magazines, 53 rounds of ammunition and one satellite phone were recovered, the press release added.
There are cases related to various subversive activities, including murder and extortion in different police stations against the arrested persons.
It is to be noted that Subrata Bain and Mullah Masud are the leaders of the Seven Star terrorist group and are among the 23 top terrorists on the law enforcer’s list.
The operation was conducted this morning based on specific intelligence information, the ISPR said.
The operation was completed without any damage or sabotage due to the efficiency of the operation team and the criminals were arrested. Various formations of the Bangladesh Army, various intelligence agencies of the country and the Bangladesh Police played a leading role in implementing the successful operation, it added.
The Bangladesh Army is committed to ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order. The public is requested to inform the nearest army camp or law enforcement agencies about any kind of criminal activity, the press release further said.
