Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan on Sunday announced the withdrawal of 129 cases filed against ethnic minorities and forest dwellers in Madhupur, Tangail.
While planting Sal saplings in Telki area of Madhupur under the Tangail Forest Department, she said: "We will bring back Sal trees to the Sal forests."
Mentioning more and more Sal trees should be planted in the upcoming monsoon season, the adviser said: "The forest dwellers here must play a role in protecting this forest. Students are also being involved in these efforts."
Boundary pillars are being installed to identify encroached areas within the forest, she added.
She further added that the commercial planting of eucalyptus and acacia trees in the Sal forest will be gradually stopped.
Moreover, the adviser inaugurated the "Restoration of Madhupur Sal Forest through Local Community Participation" project by inspecting boundary demarcation work and installing boundary pillars in the Rajabari area of Madhupur forest.
Prominent Wildlife Expert Professor Dr Mohammad Ali Reza Khan, Chief Conservator of Forests Md Amir Hossain Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner Sharifah Haq and other officials of the forest department were present in the event.
