Popular actor Nusraat Faria, who was arrested in an attempted murder case, has been released from jail on bail.
At around 3:30pm on Tuesday she was released from Kashimpur Central Women's Jail in Gazipur, confirmed Senior Jail Superintendent Kawalin Nahar, just days after her arrest in the attempted murder case filed at Vatara police station in Dhaka, linked to the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Kawalin said that the bail documents arrived at the prison around 12:30pm.
After verification, Nusraat was handed over to her family members at around 3:30pm.
Nusraat’s lawyer, Mohammad Iftekhar Hossain, said that Judge Mustafizur Rahman of Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court granted her bail after a hearing in response to the defense’s petition.
On Sunday, police arrested Nusraat at the immigration checkpoint of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while she was on her way to Thailand.
She was later taken to the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) office for questioning.
According to the case documents, on July 19 last year, during the July uprising in the Vatara area of the capital, a man named Enamul Haque, 35, was shot.
On May 3, he filed a complaint at the Dhaka CMM Court against 283 people. Among the accused were 17 actors, including Nusraat Faria.
As per the court’s directive, the case was recorded as an FIR on May 3.
Nusraat was arrested two weeks later.
