Four people were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a microbus at the 25-mile area on the Thakurgaon-Dinajpur highway.
Two of them died on the spot and one died on the way to the hospital. Another died later while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Four more were seriously injured in the accident. The injured have been admitted to Thakurgaon Adhikari Sadar Hospital.
The accident occurred at around 6:30am on Monday.
The deceased were identified as microbus driver Manik Hossain, 34, son of the late Abul Hossain of Sadar Road Colony Para in Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila; and microbus passenger Delwar Hossain, 35, son of the late Hafizur Rahman of Hajipara in the same upazila.
Among the seriously injured, another microbus passenger, Thakurgaon District Accounts Office Auditor Zulfiqar Ali , 45, died on the way to the hospital, and another died while undergoing treatment at the hospital. His name is Imrul, 45, a resident of Pirganj Municipality in Thakurgaon district and working as an auditor at the Thakurgaon District Accounts Office, police and hospital sources said.
The names of the injured have been revealed by the emergency department of Thakurgaon 250-bed hospital. They are Mizanur Rahman, 48, a resident of Munshihat in Thakurgaon, Al Mamun, 40, Abdul Mannan, 37, and Nahid, 37, residents of Hajipara in the municipality. All of them are auditors of the Thakurgaon District Accounts Office, sources said.
According to police and local sources, a microbus was heading towards Dinajpur from Thakurgaon in the morning rain. A truck was coming towards Thakurgaon from the opposite direction They collided head-on at the 25-mile mark on the way
After receiving the information, the police and fire service personnel reached the spot and started rescue operations. The bodies of two people were recovered from the spot.
Birganj Police Station OC Abdul Gafur said that traffic in the area is normal despite the accident. Legal action is being taken in the incident.
