A private car driver, Ranzu Khan, 30, was killed in a knife attack by muggers on a flyover in Tongi, Gazipur.
He was from Majidpur village of Sadar upazila in Pabna.
The incident took place around 12:30am on Saturday on the flyover adjacent to the Telephone Shilpa Sangstha (TSS), confirmed Tongi West police station Officer-in-Charge Habib Iskandar.
According to Ranzu’s younger brother Shariful Islam, the victim lived with his family in the Sataish area of Tongi. He worked as a driver for an individual in Uttara and would commute daily on a motorcycle between Sataish and his workplace.
On Friday night, while returning home after work, he was intercepted by muggers near the flyover adjacent to TSS around 12:30am. When he resisted the mugging, the attackers stabbed him.
Hearing his screams, locals rushed to the spot, prompting the muggers to flee. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead around 3am.
His body was handed over to the family from the hospital at around 4:30pm on Saturday.
OC Habib Iskandar of Tongi West police station said that a drive is underway to arrest the muggers. A case is currently being processed.
