Myanmar’s armed rebel group Arakan Army has returned three Bangladeshi fishermen abducted from the Naf River along the Leda border in Hnila union, Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.
The three fishermen were brought back on Tuesday evening through the efforts of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
The Arakan Army had taken them from the Naf River near the Leda border area on Monday afternoon.
The fishermen are Mohammad Siddiq, 22, Robiul Alam, 23, and Mohammad Hossain, 25, all residents of Purbo Leda village in Hnila union.
Lt Col Ashiqur Rahman, commanding officer of the Teknaf-2 BGB battalion, said the BGB had contacted the Arakan Army to bring back the three Bangladeshi fishermen.
He added that the fishermen had been returned to their families and instructed not to cross Bangladesh waters while fishing in the future.
Notably, on the same day, two other Bangladeshi fishermen were shot and injured by gunfire from the Arakan Army while they were fishing in the Naf River near Shah Porir Dwip in Teknaf’s Subrang union, according to Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sheikh Ehshan Uddin.
The injured are Hedayet Ullah, 17, and Mohammad Hossain, 16, residents of Jalia Para in Shah Porir Dwip, currently receiving treatment at Cox’s Bazar Hospital.
