Three individuals were arrested on Tuesday in connection with a case filed by Narayanganj police on charges of attacking law enforcement personnel and obstructing the arrest of Selina Hayat Ivy, former city mayor and senior vice-president of the district Awami League.

The case was filed on Monday night with the Narayanganj Sadar Model police station by Sub-Inspector Md Ripon Mridha, confirmed Narayanganj Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Tarek Al Mehedi on Tuesday.

The case names 52 individuals and also accuses around 200 unidentified people. Following the filing of the case, police conducted a raid and arrested three suspects.

The arrestees are Hanif, 40, son of Kashem from the Shahidnagar area under Narayanganj Sadar upazila; Hasibur Rahman Jisan, 28, son of Hanif; and Shawkat Mikhun, 43, son of Abdul Hai.

Earlier, police had gone to the Chunka Kutir residence of former mayor Ivy in Deobhog to execute an arrest warrant related to the murder of Siddhirganj garment worker Minarul Islam.

However, they reportedly faced obstruction from individuals present at the scene. Activists of the Awami League allegedly chanted slogans against the police, creating a tense situation.

While transporting Ivy following her arrest, police were reportedly attacked again near Ukilpara Mor in the city, leaving several officers injured.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accused, said ASP Tarek Al Mehedi.
