Update : 11 May 2025, 09:57 PM

Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman on Sunday said there has not been a single instance of enforced disappearance since the interim government assumed office in August.

Police have not filed a single false case in the last nine months either, Asaduzzaman said while addressing the closing ceremony of a three-day workshop on public interest litigation (PIL) as chief guest at a hotel in Cox’s Bazar.

He added: “A culture of enforced disappearance prevailed in the country for the last couple of years. But not a single incident of enforced disappearance has taken place since the present government assumed office.”

The chief law officer of the state, in his speech, said around 4,500 people became victims of extrajudicial killings in the last couple of years.

He added: “There are many NGO or NGO personalities who occasionally speak about these, but do not become insistent in this connection. So the commitment we need for changing this society comes into question.”

Referring to different statistics presented by the BNP, the attorney general said: "According to the party, around six million fake cases were filed, where 99% of such cases were filed by the police."
