BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee said that reforms are essential for holding free and fair elections, and the Awami League must be banned through the judicial process.
Anee made the comment as the chief guest at a representative meeting of the Bangakha Union unit of the BNP under Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila, organized by the Union BNP on Friday afternoon at Aman Ullahpur Ayesha Dakhil Madrasa, reports Bangla Tribune.
Anee said: “Hasina may have fled, but her wealth has not. Not everyone has been arrested yet, and justice is still not visible. Every member of Hasina’s family who is involved in misrule and corruption must be brought to justice. Our clear stance is that we want to see swift and visible justice. Another key issue is the need for reforms—reforms are essential for holding free and fair elections. Through the judicial process, the Awami League must be banned. They have no right to participate in politics in Bangladesh. If they suddenly reappear with flash processions and attempt to reinstate fascism, it will only bring further suffering to the people.”
He added: “They are lying in wait, looking for opportunities to harm the people. Despite their past mistakes, they have not once come forward to apologize to the public. Instead, they continue to issue threats and talk about displaying power through flash processions. The people will not give them another chance.”
Anee further said: “Illegal and looted weapons have not yet been recovered. So how can we expect any improvement in law and order? Those staging flash processions are trying to build up power using these weapons. The government must not allow this. This government is the outcome of our movement, and because of that, our expectations from it are higher. From that place of expectation, we demand that all illegal weapons be recovered immediately. If they are not, those weapons may once again be used against us.”
The event was inaugurated by District BNP Joint Convener Hasibur Rahman.
It was presided over by Union BNP President Abul Hossain Hawlader and conducted by General Secretary Chhoyedur Rahman Raihan.
Special guests included Sadar Upazila (East) BNP Convener Main Uddin Chowdhury Riaz, Joint Convener Shah Md Emran, and Member Secretary Mokhlesur Rahman Harun, among others.
