The prime accused in the murder case of an easy-bike driver, which took place inside the Jatishongho Park in Khulna, has been arrested by RAB-6.
Acting on a tip-off, the accused was apprehended from the New Market area of Faridpur district headquarters, confirmed Major Ehtashamul Haque Khan, company commander of RAB-6 Special Company.
He said that the victim, Palash Sheikh, was an easy-bike driver and had a long-standing dispute with the accused.
On Sunday night, around 8:15pm, inside the Jatishongho Park under Khulna Metropolitan Police's (KMP) Khulna Sadar police station, the accused assaulted the victim due to previous enmity. At one point, the victim was stabbed in the abdomen, causing his intestines to come out, Major Ehtashamul added.
He continued: "Later, local residents and the victim’s uncle rushed him to Khulna Medical College Hospital for treatment. Before succumbing to his injuries, the victim revealed the names and identities of the attackers to his uncle. Palash died during treatment on Monday morning at around 8:30am.
"Following the incident, the victim’s father filed a murder case at Khulna Sadar police station against the accused."
Given the sensational nature of the case, RAB-6 Special Company continued a shadow investigation to uncover the mystery and arrest those involved, he said.
Major Ehtashamul added: "As part of this ongoing effort, on Thursday night at around 10pm, a skilled operational team of RAB-6 (Special Company) received secret information that the prime fugitive in the Palash murder case was staying in the New Market area under Kotwali police station in Faridpur district.
"Upon verifying the information and taking legal steps, the RAB team, with assistance from RAB-10 (CPC-3), arrested Fahim, 19, the prime accused in the Palash murder case, from the mentioned location."
The arrested accused has been handed over to Khulna Sadar police station under KMP for further legal procedures, Major Ehtashamul confirmed.
