Four individuals have been arrested by the Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) under Gacha Police Station for their involvement in acts of sabotage, vandalism, looting, and causing damage during a rally protesting Israeli aggression.
This information was confirmed in a press release issued by the GMP on Tuesday.
The arrested individuals are Siam Khan Anik, 18, son of Md Sobuj from Musapur village in Companiganj upazila of Noakhali; Shimul Ahmed Shawna, 20, son of Md Kamal from Balipara (Notun Bazar) area in Trishal upazila of Mymensingh; Shahin, 19, son of Jahangir Alam from Mollarkandi area under Bhederchar Police Station of Shariatpur; and Zainal Abedin, 21, son of Amir Hossain from Purbo Kalmeshwar area of Gazipur.
They were arrested on the night of Monday from various locations within Gazipur Metropolitan City. The process of presenting them before the Gazipur court is currently underway.
Ali Md Rashed, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gacha Police Station under the Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP), said that on Monday afternoon, a rally protesting Israeli aggression was held in the Boardbazar area under Gacha Police Station.
From that rally, the arrested individuals allegedly carried out, in a premeditated manner, acts of sabotage, vandalism, looting, and caused damage to several establishments including Tripti Hotel, Radhuni Hotel, and the Bata Company dealer.
He also said that their objective was to destabilize the country and undermine its image abroad.
Upon receiving the information, police and army forces arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. Later, based on video footage of the incident, the Gacha Police identified the perpetrators.
That same night, an operation was conducted across various parts of Gazipur Metropolitan City, resulting in the arrest of the four individuals involved in the acts of sabotage, vandalism, and looting.
In addition, operations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals directly involved in the incident, including those who incited or planned the attack.
