3 killed in clash over land dispute in Cox’s Bazar

They attacked each other with locally-made sharp weapons over the matter, leaving three people dead on the spot

Three people including an imam were killed in a fierce clash between two neighbours over a land dispute in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya upazila on Sunday.

The incident took place in Kutupalong village of Rajapalong union in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar.

The deceased have been identified as Abdullah Al Mamun (46), son of Nazir Hossain, a local mosque cleric and Jamaat leader; Abdul Mannan (37), son of Mohammad Hossain from the opposing side; and his sister, Shahina Begum (40).

Of them, Mamun was the imam of Kutupalong Jame Mosque while Mannan and Shahina were siblings.

Cox's Bazar Additional Superintendent of Police (Media) Md Jasim Uddin Chowdhury, confirmed the information.

He said that upon receiving the news, a team from Ukhiya police station rushed to the spot.

Local Union Parishad Member Engineer Helal Uddin said that there had been an ongoing dispute between the two parties over a small piece of land in the West Para area of Kutupalong village.

They attacked each other with locally-made sharp weapons over the matter in the morning, leaving three people dead on the spot, he said.

Arif Hossain, officer-in-charge of Ukhiya police station, said the bodies were sent to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy after recovering from the house.

Legal action will be taken in this regard, the officer added.
