A police man tragically died after being hit by an auto-rickshaw while riding his motorcycle in Kaliakair, Gazipur.
The deceased police person's name was Roni, 26.
He had taken leave to be with his pregnant wife, who was due for surgery. His death came just hours before the birth of his child, and he was buried only an hour after his newborn son was delivered.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at around 11:15am near the Mouchak area on the Dhaka-Tangail highway.
Roni had taken leave to be with his wife, Sumi Akter, who was scheduled for a surgery the following day. However, he never made it to her. Tragically, he lost his life on the way.
On the same day, Sumi’s health deteriorated further, prompting her to undergo surgery a day earlier than planned.
In the evening, when Roni’s body arrived at his home, Sumi was urgently admitted to a hospital in Tangail for the surgery. At 8:15pm, she gave birth to a baby boy through surgery. At 9pm, Roni was buried at a local cemetery after his funeral prayers.
Roni Shikdar was from Shahjahanganj, Chonati, Tangail, and worked as a constable with Gazipur Metropolitan Police.
According to the police and locals, Roni had been serving as a bodyguard to the Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Police Din E Alam in Gazipur Metropolitan Police’s Sadar Circle.
He had left for Tangail to be with his pregnant wife, who was undergoing surgery. On his way, an auto-rickshaw coming in the opposite direction collided with his motorcycle in the Mouchak area, causing him to fall off and suffer a fatal head injury.
Highway police recovered his body and sent it to the Shaheed Taj Uddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur for an autopsy. Afterward, his body was taken back to his home later that evening.
