A tourist drowned in the waters of Jaflong in Gowainghat, Sylhet, on Eid day.
Police recovered the body from the Jaflong Zero Point area on Monday afternoon.
The deceased, Mohammad Nayan Hossain, 13, was from Samorgao village, Kursi Union, Nabiganj Upazila in Habiganj district. He used to live with his family in Subidbazar Residential Area in Sylhet.
According to local and police sources, Nayan and 12 of his friends had gone to Jaflong for a picnic on Monday afternoon in a pickup truck.
In the afternoon, Nayan and some of his friends went to swim at the Zero Point area. While swimming, Nayan was caught in a strong current and was swept away.
His friends and locals immediately saw what happened and called for help. Local divers conducted a one-hour search operation and eventually recovered his body.
Md Shahadat Hossain, the in-charge of Jaflong Tourist Police, said: “After completing the legal process, the body will be handed over to the family.”
Officer-in-Charge of Gowainghat Police Station Sarker Tofayel Ahmed, confirmed the incident, saying: “Police retrieved the body and brought it to the police station. It will be handed over to the family after completing the legal procedures.”
