With Eid hours away, thousands are heading home towards the north, increasing pressure on the Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge highway, but no significant congestion has been reported.
Alongside public transport, cars and motorcycles made up a large portion of the traffic on Sunday.
In the past 24 hours, over 8,000 motorcycles crossed the Jamuna Bridge, forming long queues at the toll plaza.
According to Jamuna Bridge authorities, 45,478 vehicles crossed the bridge between Friday midnight and Saturday midnight. This included 8,137 motorcycles, 16,094 light vehicles, 13,505 buses and 7,741 trucks.
“To manage Eid travel, 18 toll booths are operating on both sides of the bridge, including two separate booths for motorcycles,” said Ahsanul Kabir Pavel, site officer and executive engineer of the Jamuna Bridge.
