He emphasized the importance of crowd management and road safety as people travel home for the long holiday

Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Commissioner Dr Nazmul Karim Khan has announced the deployment of 500 police officers to ensure smooth traffic flow during the Eid holidays.

Speaking at Chandana Crossroads in Gazipur on Thursday noon, he emphasized the importance of crowd management and road safety as people travel home for the long holiday.

"We are taking measures to ensure a hassle-free journey for everyone. Please remember, rushing can lead to accidents that may devastate entire families," he said.

He noted that Gazipur has long suffered from traffic congestion, but efforts have been made to clear the roads.

"We have evicted hawkers and removed unauthorized parking. Our goal is to keep traffic moving," the commissioner added.

Highlighting the importance of road discipline, he said: "Vehicles must keep moving, and pedestrians should be mindful while walking on the roads. If traffic is blocked, congestion becomes inevitable."

Dr Nazmul Karim Khan further mentioned that, except for emergency vehicles, garment transport, and passenger buses, all other transport services would be restricted during the Eid holidays. Trucks will be diverted to alternative routes to prevent congestion.

To monitor traffic conditions, the GMP has deployed drone surveillance.

"We are using drones to identify traffic bottlenecks. Additionally, auto-rickshaws will not be allowed within 100 meters of highways. Instead of removing them by force, we aim to raise awareness," he said.

Urging public cooperation, he advised passengers to disembark from auto-rickshaws 100 meters away from the main roads to avoid unnecessary congestion.
