Two killed in Rajshahi train crash

The train dragged the motorcycle a long distance

An accident took place when a Banglabandha-bound train from Panchagarh hit a motorcycle, killing two riders on the spot at Belpukur Rail Gate in Puthia Upazila, Rajshahi, around 5:45pm on Wednesday.

The deceased have been identified as Mizanur, 33, son of Abdur Razzak, and Jahurul, 35, son of Sulaiman, both residents of Chandpur Bazar in Natore Sadar Thana.

Rajshahi Railway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Faisal Bin Ahsan confirmed the incident, stating that the Banglabandha Express train struck the motorcycle at Belpukur Rail Gate around 5:45pm, resulting in the immediate deaths of Mizanur and Jahurul.

Reports indicate that a barrier was lowered before the train arrived. However, the motorcycle bypassed the barricade and entered the railway tracks.

At that moment, the train arrived, dragging the motorcycle a considerable distance.

The two riders were killed instantly, their bodies severely mutilated.

The accident site falls under the jurisdiction of the Ishwardi Railway Police Station in Pabna.

Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ziaur Rahman said that the barricade was down when the Banglabandha Express train approached the Belpukur rail crossing. Despite this, the motorcycle went under the barricade and onto the tracks, leading to the fatal collision.

He further mentioned that police had been dispatched to the scene.

The bodies will be recovered and handed over to the families. Additionally, an unnatural death (UD) case will be filed at Ishwardi Railway Police Station regarding the incident.
