Police have recovered the bodies of a husband, wife, and their four-year-old child in Kashimpur, Gazipur Metropolitan.

The bodies were discovered on Sunday morning in the rented house of Ripon Mia, located in the Gobindabari (Dewan Bari) area of Kashimpur, according to the police.

The deceased have been identified as Nazmul, 27, son of Abu from Solaptima (Bangkhi) village in Sakhipur upazila, Tangail; his wife, Khadija Akter, 19, and their four-year-old daughter, Nadia Akter.

Khadija lived with her husband and child at her father Ripon Mia’s house and worked at the Sardaganj Rich Cotton garment factory.

According to local residents and family sources, Nazmul was addicted to drugs and did not have a job.

Frequent arguments occurred between the couple regarding these issues, the local residents said.

On Saturday night at around 11:30pm, they went to bed; however, when they did not wake up in the morning, family members called out to them but received no response.

Later, relatives looked through a window at the back of the house and saw Nazmul’s body.

Initial investigations suggest that at some point during the night, Nazmul first strangled his wife and then his daughter.

He then inflicted injuries on his body using a blade, drank toilet cleaner (Harpic), and eventually hanged himself with a scarf tied to a beam.

Police recovered Nazmul’s body in a hanging position, while his wife and child were found dead on the bed.

Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Kashimpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Moniruzzaman said that Nazmul was addicted to drugs.

The three bodies have been sent to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for autopsy, Moniruzzaman said.

Legal proceedings regarding the incident are underway, the police officer added.
