A fire has broken out in the Gulisakhali area of the Sundarbans.
Upon receiving reports of the fire at approximately 10:30am on Sunday, officials and staff from the Forest Department rushed to the scene.
Dipan Chandra Das, assistant forest conservator of the Chandpai Range, said: “The fire has been spotted within the forest area near the Gulisakhali Camp under the Dhansagar Station of the Eastern Sundarbans’ Chandpai Range. As soon as the fire was detected, officials and staff from the Forest Department were dispatched to the site. However, they have not yet reached the location. I am also on my way to the scene. A detailed report will be provided after assessing the situation.”
He further added: “The Gulisakhali Camp is in close proximity to the location of Saturday’s fire at the Kolmatezi Camp. At present, fires are burning in both the Kolmatezi and Gulisakhali points of the Sundarbans.”
