Three killed in Jessore road accident

The bodies were sent to Jessore General Hospital morgue for autopsy

Three people were killed and two others injured in a collision between an ambulance and an engine-run van on Jessore-Benapole highway in Jessore early Wednesday.

The deceased were Nazma Khatun, 50, Bablu Hossain, 54, and Ratna Khatun, 12, hailing from Godkhali area under Jhikargacha upazila of the district.

The injured are Hasan Iqbal, 30, and Halima Khatun, 28. All the victims were passengers of the van.

Navaran Highway police station Officer-in-Charge Rokanuzzaman said the accident occurred around 6:15am when the Benapole-bound ambulance crashed into the van coming from the opposite direction in front of a refuelling station in Nabinagar area, leaving the trio dead on the spot and two others wounded.

Legal action will be taken in this connection, he added.
