Two Bangladeshi nationals were repatriated following a company commander-level flag meeting between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India’s Border Security Force (BSF) at the Maheshpur border. The meeting took place on Tuesday at 10pm near pillar number 60/29 of the Baghdanga Border Outpost (BOP).
The individuals returned to Bangladesh are Shyamal Biswas, 66, from Bhuiyaghar village in Narayanganj Sadar Upazila and Ratan Sarker, 58, from Raghunathpur village.
Representing Maheshpur 58 BGB, the meeting was led by Baghdanga BOP’s Company Commander, Subedar Asaduzzaman Biswas. On behalf of BSF, AC Yadav Nagesh Gautam, the Company Commander of Sundarpur Camp under the 194th Battalion, attended the discussion.
According to Maheshpur 58 BGB Assistant Director Saiful Islam, Shyamal and Ratan attempted to enter Bangladesh illegally from India on Tuesday afternoon.
BSF members apprehended them and later called upon BGB to facilitate their return. Following discussions, the two individuals were officially handed over during the flag meeting that night.
