A young man accused of engaging in misogynistic activities at various locations in Savar has been detained.
Following the circulation of videos on social media showing him harassing women, police took him into custody on Monday afternoon.
The detained individual is Khalid Mahmud, also known as Hridoy Khan.
Savar police detained him at around 4pm in Aminbazar for harassing women through inappropriate gestures, according to a press release issued by the Dhaka district police.
Upon reviewing videos from Khalid’s social media account, authorities found multiple instances where he obstructed the paths of young girls and women, making inappropriate remarks and dictating what type of clothing they should wear.
Following their spread, calls emerged to bring him under legal action.
A Facebook page named JU Insider said: "This boy, Khalid Mahmud Hridoy Khan, resides in Savar. He stands on the streets, harassing and teasing school and college girls. Authorities must take action against him.”
Additional Superintendent of Police (Savar Circle) Md Shahinur Kabir said: “Legal action will be taken after discussions with higher authorities.”
