Police on Monday arrested two teenaged boys over the rape of a six-year-old girl in Baniachong upazila of Habiganj.
The arrestees are aged 17 and 15 and hail from Dakshin Jatrapasha Banamthura village of the upazila.
Police said the survivor was playing with others on a field adjacent to their home in the village on Sunday afternoon. The accused took the girl to a jungle offering her Tk10 and raped her there.
Hearing her screams, locals rushed to the jungle, but the accused managed to flee, said police, quoting locals.
She was first admitted to Baniachong Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Habiganj Sadar Hospital as her condition deteriorated.
The child's grandmother filed a case accusing the duo with the relevant police station in this connection.
Probash Kumar Singha, additional superintendent of police (Ajmiriganj-Baniachong Circle), said they arrested the accused shortly after the case was registered.
The accused were produced in court on Monday, which ordered to send them to the Juvenile Development Centre in Gazipur.
The child's maternal uncle said his brother-in-law, the child's father, had long been ill, but his condition worsened on Sunday night after hearing this incident.
Finally, he died at 11am on Monday.
