A school teacher accused of raping a class 5 student was beaten by protesters in the presence of police while being taken to court in Thakurgaon on Sunday.
The incident occurred when Mozammel Haque Manik was being brought before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Shariful Islam.
Additional police intervened to control the situation and sent the accused teacher back to court custody.
Meanwhile, under the banner of student protesters, a one-hour human chain program was held, demanding justice.
Later, there was a procession, marching through various streets of the city and concluding at the district judge court premises. The protesters were heard chanting slogans demanding the death penalty for the rapist.
They warned of more intense protests if exemplary punishment was not ensured.
Later, students from various institutions demonstrated at the deputy commissioner's office.
DC Ishrat Farzana assured them that the accused would not escape legal consequences and that justice would be served if the allegations were proven.
Notably, on Saturday afternoon, allegations arose against Manik, accusing him of raping a class 5 student of Madarganj Government Primary School in Kachubari area of Auliapur Union, Thakurgaon Sadar upazila, during private tuition at the school.
After the victim’s family filed a complaint, police detained the accused teacher, Mozammel Haque Manik, later in the afternoon.
The victim’s father filed a rape case against the teacher at Thakurgaon Sadar's Bhulli police station that same night.
The family alleged that although the school was closed, Assistant Teacher Manik used to conduct private tutoring sessions for the children.
On the day of the incident, the victim went for private lessons, where the teacher took advantage of the situation and subjected the student to brutal abuse.
The family is demanding a proper investigation and exemplary justice.
