An 88-year-old woman has died in a fire in Majhkandi village of Madhukhali upazila of Faridpur.
The deceased was identified as Shomiron Begum, said Mohammad Officer-in-Charge Nuruzzaman of Madhukhali Police Station.
The fire originated from an electrical short circuit, he said.
The fire broke out around 7:30pm on Tuesday. Shomiron who was praying in her house at the time, died on the spot.
Upon receiving a 999 emergency call, Madhukhali Fire Service team and local residents worked together to bring the blaze under control.
Local resident Farid Mia said, "Around 7:30pm, elderly Shomiron Begum was praying at home. Since no one else was there, she didn’t realise the fire had started. This is why she couldn’t react in time and died in the fire."
“An investigation is underway, and further details will be available after the investigation,” the OC said.
