Cox’s Bazar Chakaria police station Officer-in-Charge Manzur Kader Bhuiyan has been transferred following allegations of detaining and torturing a journalist and filing a false case against him, though the home adviser had ordered his withdrawal.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Shakil Ahmed signed the transfer order on Saturday night, moving him to Ukhiya police station.
However, after receiving the allegations, the home adviser had ordered his "immediate withdrawal."
Earlier, on January 28, journalist Mansur Alam filed a case against Manzur. He alleged that he was abducted, tortured, and falsely accused as a result of a news report he had published.
Additionally, three other cases were filed against the OC, who joined Chakaria police station on September 20 last year, over various allegations.
On Saturday, during a meeting in the Cox’s Bazar deputy commissioner’s conference room, Mansur presented these allegations to Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
Subsequently, the adviser called Chittagong Range DIG Ahsan Habib Palash and instructed him to withdraw the OC within 24 hours.
In the phone call, Jahangir was heard saying: "OC, Chakaria police station. Do you know about him? Withdraw him. Withdraw him today."
Additional SP Shakil said that the allegations against Manzur will be thoroughly investigated.
