Tangail district police have arrested two more suspects in connection with the robbery and harassment incident on a moving bus traveling from Dhaka to Rajshahi on the Dhaka-Tangail highway.

The arrests were confirmed by a source within the police on Tuesday morning.

According to police sources, Tangail Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman will provide a detailed briefing on the matter during a press conference scheduled for 12pm on Tuesday at his office.

Earlier, on Thursday night, the Tangail district police conducted multiple raids in Savar, leading to the arrest of three individuals involved in the robbery.

Among those arrested, suspects Sabuj and Sharifuzzaman were questioned and their confessions recorded by Senior Judicial Magistrate Nawrin Karim on Saturday evening. Meanwhile, Shahidul Islam, another arrested suspect, is currently being held in a five-day remand.

In the wake of the incident, the duty officer of Mirzapur Police Station (ASI) Atiquzzaman was temporarily suspended last Friday due to negligence in duty.

Three days later, in the early hours of Friday, a passenger, Omar Ali from Natore, filed a case at Mirzapur Police Station, naming 8-9 unidentified individuals as the perpetrators.

The robbery took place in the early hours of February 17, when a group of armed robbers hijacked the Unique Road Royals bus around midnight. The bus, which had left Dhaka’s Gabtoli at 11:30pm, was held hostage by the robbers at gunpoint, and several passengers were injured as the robbery unfolded.

The robbers moved the bus to various locations, looting and harassing a woman during the three-hour ordeal. After stopping the bus in a secluded area of Mirzapur, the robbers exited the vehicle, and the driver initially refused to continue the journey. However, following pressure from the passengers, the driver resumed the trip.

The bus was later taken to Baraigram Police Station in Natore, where the driver, Babul Ali, 30, supervisor Suman Islam, 33, and helper Mahbub Alam, 28, were arrested on suspicion of their involvement in the robbery. They were sent to court and later released on bail.
