All three units of the Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant in Dinajpur have been shut down, bringing power production at the facility to a complete halt.
However, authorities expect operations to resume within the next week.
On Tuesday afternoon, the plant’s 125MW Unit 1 had to be shut down due to a boiler leak, officials confirmed.
Chief Engineer Abu Bakkar Siddique said: "Production has been halted due to a burst boiler tube. We hope to resume operations within the next week."
The Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant has a total generation capacity of 525MW, with Unit 1 and Unit 2 each capable of producing 125MW, while Unit 3 has a capacity of 275MW.
Unit 2 has been out of operation for an extended period due to mechanical faults.
Until recently, Units 1 and 3 were producing a combined 230MW of electricity.
However, on February 15, Unit 3 was shut down due to another technical issue, leaving only Unit 1 in operation.
A subsequent boiler leak in Unit 1 forced its shutdown on Tuesday, bringing all production at the plant to a standstill.
