A leader of the Swechasebak League, the volunteer wing of the Awami League, has been arrested at his home in Kishoreganj after he posted "Biday, Bangladesh" (Goodbye, Bangladesh) on Facebook alongside a photo taken at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

Rajib Ahmed Helu, former president of Austagram upazila Swechchhasebak League in Kishoreganj, who had been missing since the post, was arrested on Monday night at his home in Madhur Hati village, Austagram Sadar union.

He was wanted in three cases related to instigating and perpetrating violence during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Austagram police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ruhul Amin said Rajib had been a fugitive in three cases, including one over charges of sabotage.

According to police and local sources, Rajib, who also serves as the president of the Austagram Bazar Traders’ Association, was accused in three cases at Austagram police station following incidents of sabotage after August 5.

Since then, he had been evading arrest.

On January 31, he posted a photo taken in front of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with the caption: “I could not inform everyone due to time constraints. Goodbye, Bangladesh.”

Despite misleading police and locals with his apparent departure, he had actually been in hiding at his home.
