During the second phase of the first segment of the 58th Bishwa Ijtema of Tablighi Jamaat, another devotee, Saiful Islam, 48, passed away due to a heart attack.
Saiful was the son of Imam Uddin from Rangpur village in Madhabdi upazila, Narsingdi.
He passed away on Monday evening.
The media coordinator for the Shura-e-Nizam (Zubair faction) of Tablighi Jamaat Bangladesh, Habibullah Rayhan, confirmed the news.
Habibullah Rayhan, the media coordinator for Maulana Zubair's followers, said: "Thousands of devotees have already gathered at the Tongi Ijtema ground for the second phase of the Ijtema. Saiful Islam was among them. On Monday afternoon, he suddenly fell ill. He was quickly taken to Tongi's Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead."
He added: "Saiful had a history of high blood pressure. While staying at the grounds in the afternoon, he suddenly became unwell. The doctors informed us that he passed away due to a heart attack."
Previously, during the first phase of the Bishwa Ijtema, the media coordinator of the organizing committee, Habibullah Rayhan, confirmed the death of five devotees.
