Former social welfare minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed arrested in Rangpur

Nuruzzaman is the key accused in a case filed over the killing of one SM Munna during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on August 4

Police arrested former social welfare minister and Lalmonirhat Awami League leader Nuruzzaman Ahmed at a house in Rangpur city's Central Road area on Thursday night. 

According to the police, Nuruzzaman had been on the run since August 5 and frequently changed his location to evade arrest. 

Recently, he had been hiding at a relative's house in a narrow alley behind the post office in Rangpur’s Central Road area. 

Upon confirming this information, police conducted a raid at around 8:15pm and arrested him.

Nuruzzaman is the key accused in a case filed over the killing of one SM Munna during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on August 4. 

Additionally, the former minister has eight more cases filed against him at different police stations, including in Aditmari, Lalmonirhat. 

The police are also verifying reports of two or three other cases against him in Rangpur.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Majid Ali said further investigations were underway to determine if he was implicated in other cases.
