In the 2024-25 academic year, 145 students will compete for each seat in the undergraduate entrance exam at Jahangirnagar University (JU).
Syed Mohammad Ali Reza, the member secretary of the central admission committee and deputy registrar (education) of the university, confirmed this information on Saturday.
A total of 262,490 applications were submitted for 1,814 seats.
This means that, on average, 145 candidates will vie for each seat.
An analysis of the applications by unit revealed that the highest number of applications came for the "D" unit under the Faculty of Biological Sciences, with 86,788 applications for 310 seats. This means that 280 candidates will compete for each seat.
The second highest number of applications came for the "A" unit under the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, where 73,169 students will compete for 426 seats.
Additionally, for the "C" unit (Faculty of Arts and Humanities and Faculty of Law), there are 53,401 applicants for 438 seats.
In the "B" unit (Faculty of Social Sciences), there are 23,774 applicants for 326 seats.
The "C1" unit (Theater and Fine Arts) has 5,507 applications for 64 seats.
The "E" unit (Faculty of Business Studies) has 15,183 applicants for 200 seats.
Finally, the "IBA-JU" unit has 4,688 applicants for 50 seats.
Regarding the exam schedule, Ali Reza said that the entrance exams will be held from February 9 to 19, excluding Fridays and Saturdays.
However, the specific dates for each unit’s exam have not been finalized yet.
The final exam schedule and other details will be published on the official admission website and in daily newspapers.
The admission cards will be available for download from the JU admission website starting February 2.
The application period for the entrance exam began on January 1 and continued until Tuesday.
