‘The work to establish a separate department for this is nearly complete’

Update : 26 Jan 2025, 08:11 PM

Adilur Rahman Khan, adviser for the Ministry of Industries and the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, has said the responsibility for the July uprising protesters will be handled in the same manner as it has been for freedom fighters by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.

He made the statement during a meeting with the families of those martyred in the July uprising and an exchange of views at the Munshiganj deputy commissioner's office on Sunday evening.

He explained that efforts are nearing completion in establishing a separate department for this purpose.

Adilur further said: "The most pressing issue for the families of those who sacrificed their lives in the July uprising is the prosecution of those responsible for the crimes during the uprising.”

“The interim government is aware of the need for justice for the criminals. However, haste in delivering justice may not be appropriate. At the same time, prolonged delays lead to a state of impunity," he added.

He also said: "Many aspirations of the martyrs' and wounded families remain unrealized. Efforts are being made through the July Shaheed Smrity Foundation to fulfil those needs. However, there are many challenges, and we are working to address them."

During the event, financial assistance was provided to the families of the 16 martyrs from Munshiganj who lost their lives in the violence of the July popular uprising.
