Update : 18 Jan 2025, 01:00 PM

As the Bengali month of Magh has begun, the northern district of Panchagarh is experiencing a resurgence of winter chills.

Despite temperatures hovering between 11 and 12°C, the region remains shrouded in dense fog and icy mountain winds.

Vehicles are cautiously navigating the roads with headlights on, even during daylight hours.

Meanwhile, the sun remains obscured, even as the day progresses. The biting cold has intensified, leading to reduced footfall on busy streets.

As usual, the severe weather has disproportionately affected low-income individuals.

The Meteorological Department reports that the intensity of fog has increased due to active seasonal winds and cloud cover.

At 9am on Saturday, the temperature was recorded at 11.8°C.

Rashedul Islam, a pedestrian, shared his experience saying: “I usually go for a morning walk. Although it hasn’t been very cold in the past few days, today(Saturday) feels significantly colder. The fog felt almost like rainfall.’

The observer of the first-class weather observation centre in Tetulia, Rokonuzzaman Rokon, said: “Although the temperature was recorded at 12.3°C at 6am on Saturday, it dropped to 11.8°C by 9 am However, due to the cold wind and cloudy skies, fog has increased across the district.”
