Police have arrested 4 accused, including 2 women and a local UP member, in a case filed over the murder of five-year-old Safwan Shikder while visiting his grandfather's house in Gournadi upazila under Barisal.
The arrested are Roman Chowdhury, his wife Akhi Begum, sister Rabina Begum alias Labina Begum and Sharikal UP member Mozammel Haque Chowdhury.
Gournadi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Yunus Mia confirmed.
He said the four arrested were taken to the Barisal Senior Chief Judicial Magistrate Court at around 2:30pm on Friday, and the court judge ordered them to be sent to jail.
Earlier, the deceased's father, Imran Shikder of Madhya Hosnabad village of the upazila, filed the murder case around 12pm on Friday.
The investigating officer of the case and Inspector (Investigation) of Gournadi Police Station Mahbub Alam has applied for a 5-day remand of the four accused in the court for questioning.
Vigorous efforts are being made to arrest the remaining accused in the case.
It is worth mentioning that child Safwan Shikder, who had come from Dhaka to visit his grandfather’s house at Madhya Hosnabad village in upazila, went missing while playing on Wednesday afternoon.
Police recovered the dead body of child Safwan from the roadside near Manna Bepari's house in the same village on Thursday morning, 16 hours after his disappearance.
