The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has conducted a raid in the deep sea near Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar, recovering 2kg of crystal meth (Ice), 10,000 yaba pills and cannabis.
A boat was seized and six traffickers were arrested in connection with the incident.
The arrested individuals are Faisal, 20, son of Nur Habib from Mithapanirchhara, Teknaf Sadar Union, Md Arman, 20, son of Abdur Rahim, Md Bukhar Uddin, 30, son of Abdul Munnaf, Md Shafiq Uddin, 20, son of Zahir Ahmed, Jashim Uddin, 21, son of Waskarani from Lengurbil and Md Kamal Hossain, 55, son of Abdur Sattar from Kutupalong Rohingya Camp, Ukhiya.
In a press release on Thursday, Lieutenant Colonel Ashikur Rahman, Commander of BGB-2, confirmed the matter.
He said that on Wednesday at around 10:30pm based on intelligence regarding drug trafficking via a boat from Myanmar, BGB conducted a raid at the Naf River estuary in the deep sea.
Sensing the presence of BGB, the traffickers attempted to flee but were pursued and apprehended along with the boat.
Upon searching the boat, 2.13kg of crystal meth, 10,000 yaba pills, a small quantity of cannabis and four mobile phones were recovered and the boat was seized.
He further mentioned that the arrested individuals, along with the seized drugs, are in the process of being handed over to Teknaf police after completing legal formalities.
