Dr Purnajit Mahaldar, an associate professor of the Department of Bangla at Rajshahi University (RU), has passed away after sustaining injuries in a road accident.
He breathed his last at 2:35am on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).
Confirming the news on Tuesday morning, the university's Public Relations Office Administrator Professor Dr Akhtar Hossain Majumdar said that Dr Purnajit Mahaldar was seriously injured in a road accident at Bar Rastar Mor in Rajshahi city on Monday afternoon.
He was rescued from the scene and admitted to the ICU unit of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where he passed away.
Expressing grief over the passing of his colleague, Professor Dr Akhtar Hossain Majumdar said: “On behalf of Rajshahi University administration, we extend our deepest condolences to his bereaved family members.”
Dr Akhtar Hossain Majumdar further said that Dr Purnajit Mahaldar's body was placed in front of the Shahidullah Arts Building on Tuesday morning at 9am. Friends, well-wishers, colleagues, and students paid their respects between 9am and 10am.
The President of the Bangla Department Alumni Association at Rajshahi University Jamil Rayhan and its General Secretary Shahid Iqbal have also expressed their condolences over the death of Dr Purnajit Mahaldar.
