Four die after consuming bootleg liqour in Rajshahi

Police will investigate and take action on the case

Four people have died after consuming homemade alcohol in Rajshahi.

Among them, three died in the Mohanpur Upazila of Rajshahi, and one died while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).

Four others from Mohanpur, who became ill after consuming alcohol, are currently receiving treatment at RMCH.

These four individuals had consumed alcohol together with the three deceased.

The deceased are Mohammad Toton, 40, from Durgapur village in Mohanpur upazila, Montaz Ali, 40, from the same village, and Mohammad Jewel, 35, from Karisha village.

The person who died at Ramec Hospital was Atowar Hossain, 35, a resident of Ganeshpur village in Mandal Upazila of Naogaon.

The four currently under treatment at RMCH Hospital are Akbar Ali, 43, from Durgapur Kacharipara, Mohammad Firouz, 26, from Durgapur Shahpara, Mohammad Pinto, 25, from Durgapur Monnapara, and Mohammad Monayem, 25, from Durgapur Khapara.

They had consumed alcohol together with the deceased.

Ward Master Faruk Hossain of RMCH Hospital reported that Atowar Hossain was brought to the hospital at 12:08am on Wednesday night after falling ill from alcohol consumption. He passed away eight minutes later.

After completing legal formalities, the police handed the body over to the family.

Meanwhile, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mohanpur Police Station, Abdul Hannan, said that seven people from Mohanpur consumed alcohol on the night of Tuesday. Three died between Wednesday morning and Thursday.

The remaining four were admitted to RMCH Hospital.

He mentioned that Toton and Jewel were alcohol vendors. They also consumed alcohol with the others and died at home.

Their bodies were buried by the family before the police arrived.

After receiving the news of Montaz’s death on Thursday, the police recovered his body, and an autopsy was conducted at Ramec Hospital.

The body was then handed over to the family.

Masum Rana, the son of the deceased Montaz, filed a murder case at the Mohanpur Police Station.

As a result, the police have arrested two drug dealers: Mukul, 39, son of Mahir from Mathihar village, and Johnny, 42, son of Gofur from Dhopaghata village.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mohanpur Police Station, Abdul Hannan, confirmed that the two drug dealers were arrested in connection with the murder case related to the alcohol consumption incident.

They have been sent to jail. The police continue their operations against drug dealers.
