Two people were killed, and four others injured in a head-on collision between a truck and an autorickshaw in Kaliakair, Gazipur.
The accident occurred on Tuesday at around 4:30pm in the Chairman Bazar area of Chapair Union in the upazila.
The deceased have been identified as Noyon and autorickshaw driver Karim Mia.
However, the police could not provide detailed information about their identities.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Zahid Hossain of Kaliakair Police Station said the passenger-carrying autorickshaw heading towards Kaliakair collided head-on with a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction at Chairman Bazar on the Mauna-Kaliakair road.
The autorickshaw was severely mangled in the crash, killing passenger Noyon on the spot.
Locals rescued the injured and took them to Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty emergency doctor declared the critically injured autorickshaw driver Karim Mia dead.
Three other injured passengers are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
Upon receiving the news, the police recovered the bodies from the accident site.
As no complaints were filed, the deceased's bodies were handed over to their families without post-mortem examinations following their application.
