Students of Jagannath University (JnU) on Tuesday staged a protest rally demanding justice for the killing of Felani, who was shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF).

The protest was held in the university's Shanto Chattar premises.

The students demanded the need to end Indian aggression at the border and demanded justice for Felani and all other victims of border killings.

They also called for the disclosure of all agreements with India and the annulment of unequal treaties.

Students from various departments participated in the protest.

Kishore Samya, a student of the Film and Television Department, said: “Every day, Indian border forces open fire on Bangladeshi citizens, which even their long-standing adversary, Pakistan, does not do. Despite such aggression, the previous fascist government justified these killings. Now that the fascist government is no longer in power, we must discard the submissive foreign policies of the past.”

Evan Tahsib, a student of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, said: “Fourteen years have passed since Felani’s murder, yet we have not seen justice. This impunity highlights the nature of the relationship between Bangladesh and India. Under the influence of India’s Hindutva-driven BJP government, the Indian media falsely portrays that minorities are persecuted in Bangladesh. We demand the annulment of all unequal treaties with India and justice for Felani and all other border killings.”

On January 7, 2011, Felani, a teenage girl, was brutally killed by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Anantapur border in Ramkhana, Fulbari, Kurigram.
