Update : 02 Jan 2025, 05:20 PM

Chuadanga recorded the country's lowest temperature of 9.8°C, the coldest temperature of this season, at 9am on Thursday.

The capital, Dhaka, along with various parts of the country, is shivering under severe cold. Dense fog has covered almost every region of the country, accompanied by chilly winds from the north. Even as the morning turns into noon, the sun remains hidden in the capital. In the northern areas, vehicles are running with headlights on during the daytime.

In Chuadanga, the temperature dropped by 2°C in a single day, while the humidity level reached 95%.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department, in its January forecast, said that rainfall this month might be below average. One to two low-pressure systems could form in the Bay of Bengal this month.

Additionally, moderate to severe cold waves may occur in a few places in the western, northern, and northeastern regions of the country. Elsewhere, two to three mild to moderate cold waves might sweep through.

When the minimum temperature ranges from 8.1 to 10°C, it is termed as a mild cold wave. A temperature range of 6.1 to 8 °C is considered moderate, while a range of 4.1 to 6 °C is deemed severe. If the temperature drops below 4°C, it is classified as an extreme cold wave.
