The Roads and Highways Department (RHD) is working to construct a bridge over the Mongla River within the current year.

A consultation meeting was held at the RHD bungalow in Digraj, Mongla, at 12pm on Wednesday to finalize the location and review the hydrology and morphology study report for the bridge.

The agency aims to alleviate the long-standing struggles of the local population by swiftly conducting surveys and implementing the project.

To this end, the RHD has held discussions with local representatives and the administration.

The meeting included representatives from the local administration, Mongla Port Authority, EPZ, and various levels of public representatives.

During the discussion, participants expressed their views on constructing the bridge at a convenient location over the Mongla River.

The preliminary decision was to build the bridge on two pillars located on opposite banks of the river, leaving 200 kilometres of open water in the middle.

Following the final decision, surveys will be conducted this year, and the project will be implemented accordingly, RHD said.

Local residents believe that the bridge's construction will alleviate the prolonged suffering of the population in this region.
