Update : 29 Dec 2024, 01:33 PM

The fire broke out on Saturday at around 11:15pm in the washing room on the sixth floor of a six-story garment factory in the Nowjoar area of the city. On the same night, at approximately 11:45pm, another fire broke out in three shops in the Bhogra Bypass area under the same police station

Fire Service personnel brought a fire under control within half an hour at Diganto Garments and nearby shops in the Basan police station area of Gazipur Metropolitan.

The Fire Service reported an estimated loss of around two lakh taka in the shop fire.

Rajib Hossain, officer of Gazipur Chowrasta Modern Fire Station, said that the fire started in the washing room on the sixth floor of Diganto Garments.

Before the Fire Service personnel arrived, the factory authorities managed to bring the fire under control using their own resources.

While some essential documents were burned, there was no major damage.

Meanwhile, in the Bhogra Bypass area, locals attempted to control the fire in the shops owned by Sohel Rana, Shafiqul Islam, and Habibur Rahman.

These shops contained broiler chickens, firewood and cartons.

Two units of the Fire Service reached the scene and took about half an hour to extinguish the fire.

Preliminary estimates suggest a loss of around two lakh taka due to the fire in the shops.

The Modern Fire Station officer further stated that there were no casualties in either incident. It is initially suspected that the fires might have originated from electrical short circuits.
