Three members of the same family were killed in a road accident in Puthia Upazila of Rajshahi.

They were riding on a motorcycle when they were run over by a bus.

The accident occurred on Saturday afternoon in front of the Shibpur Potato Cold Storage on the Rajshahi-Natore highway.

The deceased have been identified as Abu Hanif, 25, son of Abul Hossain of Kandra village in Puthia Upazila; his wife Fatema Khatun, 22; and his sister-in-law Juthi Khatun, 14.

Fatema and Juthi were daughters of Shahed Ali from Palopara village in the same Upazila.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Firoz Hossain of Poba Highway Police Station, located in Shibpur, said that Abu Hanif, Fatema, and Juthi were traveling on the same motorcycle from Rajshahi towards the Puthia Upazila headquarters.

Near Shibpur, their motorcycle collided head-on with a bus coming from Natore towards Rajshahi.

The bus ran over them and fled the scene.

All three sustained severe injuries.

They were rescued and taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).

However, Hanif and Juthi died on the way to the hospital.

Their bodies were taken home by family members from the hospital's emergency department.

Fatema was admitted to Ward 8 but later passed away in the afternoon while undergoing treatment.

SI Firoz Hossain further said that efforts are underway to identify the bus that fled the scene.

Authorities are reviewing footage from various closed-circuit (CCTV) cameras in the area, and legal action will be taken accordingly.
