A traffic jam stretching 18 kilometres formed on the Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge highway early on Thursday due to dense fog slowing down vehicles and an accident in the area.
The biting cold exacerbated the suffering of drivers and passengers.
Elenga highway police said the accident, a collision between two trucks in Kalihati upazila, occurred around 10pm the previous night, causing vehicles to be stuck on both sides of the road.
They added that although the trucks had been removed, heavy fog continued to disrupt normal traffic flow.
As a result, vehicles were moving slowly or intermittently at different points, they said, adding that police were working to resolve the gridlock.
