5 dead in pickup-auto-rickshaw collision in Kishoreganj

Efforts are underway to identify the deceased

Five people, including a woman, were killed in a collision between a pickup van and a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw in Bhairab upazila, Kishoreganj, on Monday morning.

The accident occurred in the Jagannathpur area along the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway.

According to local sources, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw departed from Nilkuti in Raipura upazila, Narsingdi, heading towards Bhairab at around 9:15am. At the same time, a pickup van was travelling in the same direction. The collision occurred as the auto-rickshaw attempted to overtake the pickup near Jagannathpur.

The crash claimed the lives of all five passengers, including three women, in the auto-rickshaw. The driver of the auto-rickshaw was among the deceased.

Md Al Amin, officer-in-charge of Bhairab Fire Service, confirmed the incident and said that the bodies of the victims have been kept at the Bhairab Highway police station. Efforts are underway to identify the deceased.

In a separate incident, a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a truck occurred at Mahmudabad Jhartala in Raipura upazila, Narsingdi, also on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway.

The taxi driver was killed on the spot, while five other passengers sustained injuries. The identities of the victims in this incident are also yet to be determined.

Authorities are investigating both accidents and have urged motorists to exercise caution on the busy Dhaka-Sylhet Highway.
