Four passengers of an autorickshaw were killed in an accident involving a truck and a covered van at Chandana Chowrasta on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Gazipur late on Wednesday.
The deceased were Mamun Mia, 29, Dulal Mia, 27, and Saleha Akter, 24. The identity of the fourth victim remains unknown.
According to Bason police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rahidul Islam, a speeding truck hit the autorickshaw from behind at Chandana Chowrasta. The impact pushed the autorickshaw between the truck and a covered van in front.
Dulal Mia, a passenger, had died on the spot, he said.
Three critically injured passengers were rushed to Gazipur’s Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries during treatment.
Dr Sheikh Fahad, a resident physician at the hospital, said their bodies had been sent to the morgue for autopsy.
