Ferry operations on the Daulatdia-Paturia route resumed on Wednesday morning after a suspension of 8 hours and 20 minutes due to dense fog.
Earlier, authorities halted ferry services at 12:40am when fog thickened, posing risks to navigation.
There were long queues of goods-laden trucks at 8am, stretching from the Zero Point of the Daulatdia terminal to Daulatdia union parishad.
Over 100 passenger buses were also stranded, leaving passengers and drivers to endure severe cold.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation Assistant General Manager Md Salah Uddin said ferry services had been suspended to prevent accidents caused by dense fog.
“Operations resumed at 9am as visibility improved. Currently, 12 ferries, both large and small, are operating on this route."
He added that the prolonged suspension had caused several hundred vehicles to be stuck at the Daulatdia end.
The BIWTC hoped to clear the backlog and ferry all vehicles across the river shortly, the official said.
