Former Ghior upazila Chhatra Dal Secretary General Lovelu Mia, 40, was killed in a clash between two rival groups of the Chhatra Dal in Manikganj’s Ghior upazila on Monday.

Five others were injured in the altercation, with two in critical condition.

The incident occurred around noon on the premises of Ghior Upazila Health Complex.

According to local sources and police, the clash erupted over territorial dominance.

Miscreants reportedly attacked a BNP activist in the Ghior bus stand area earlier in the day.

Lovelu Mia, who intervened, was injured and taken to the Ghior Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

While at the health complex, attackers armed with local weapons struck Lovelu again, killing him on the spot.

Among the injured, Rahatuzzaman Khan Altab, 42, and Himel, 28, both from the same village, are in critical condition and undergoing treatment.

Rafiqul Alam, officer-in-charge of Ghior police station, confirmed the incident.

“This appears to be a result of disputes over dominance in the area,” he said. “We are conducting an investigation, and legal measures will be taken accordingly.”

Further details regarding the clash and any arrests are yet to be disclosed.
