A total of 440 tourists stranded in Sajek Valley, a popular tourist destination in Baghaichhari, Rangamati, have started their journey back.
With the assistance of the army, they began leaving Sajek for Khagrachahri around 2pm on Wednesday.
Due to the closure of the Sajek-Khagrachhari road, the tourists had to stay in Sajek from Tuesday afternoon until this morning.
Motijoy Tripura, joint general secretary of the Sajek Cottage Owners’ Association, said: “Those who were stranded yesterday afternoon and those scheduled to leave this morning departed Sajek after 2pm with army assistance.”
He further said: “Some tourists who planned to stay for two days are still in Sajek.”
Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shirin Akhter said: “As law and order has normalized, 440 tourists left Sajek for Khagrachari around 2pm.”
Earlier, Rangamati Additional District Magistrate Zobaida Akter on Tuesday night issued travel restrictions amid exchanges of gunfire between two rival groups.
